God
We Believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons- the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit- equal in power and glory- and that this triune God created all, upholds all and governs all. We Believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
Jesus
We Believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings-His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people and personal, visible return to earth.
Holy Spirit
We Believe in the Holy Spirit, who came forth from the Father to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify and empower for ministry all who believe in Jesus Christ in that He is an abiding Helper, Teacher and Guide. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and exercise all the Biblical gifts of the Spirit, in accordance with the Holy Scriptures. Spiritual gifts are given to glorify God and to edify His church.
The Bible
We Believe that the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the word of God, fully inspired without error in the original manuscripts, and contain the entire doctrinal belief of this church. It is God’s loving and holy revelation to us and is to be applied to our lives. God’s Word holds authority over everything. We are committed to its truths and it is the foundation for all we do at Steele Creek Church of Charlotte. The Bible was written by men as they were inspired by the Holy Spirit. It has been divinely preserved as no other book in history. Scripture is relevant and powerful. We are watching God use His Word to change lives every day! The Word of God tells us about Him and what His heart is like. Salvation
We believe that salvation is by grace, a free gift of God apart from works:
Salvation requires repentance, turning from one’s own way
Salvation is through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and that we become regenerated by the Holy Spirit, confirming us as the children of God.
True salvation will be manifested by a changed life with total submission to our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Church
We Believe in the universal church of Jesus Christ, the living spiritual body, of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members. We believe that all members of His body should be unified by the communality of our faith in Christ Jesus our Lord. At Steele Creek Church of Charlotte, the Word of God – the Bible – serves as the foundation for everything we do. It is the culmination of our worship together. It is the focus of other learning times during the week. It is the means by which people come to have faith. And that faith leads them to new life in Christ.
Return of Christ
We Believe in the personal, visible return of Christ to earth and the establishment of His kingdom, in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment and eternal blessing of the righteous and the endless suffering of the wicked.
Baptism
Baptism is the act of a believing Christian who wants to publicly confess their personal commitment to Jesus Christ and to identify with His death, burial and resurrection. It is the symbolic burial of the “old person” (one’s sinful past) and the rising again to new life in Christ. The act of Baptism can be defined as an outward expression of an inward decision.
Why do we immerse? Our English word “baptism” is translated from the Greek word “baptizo.” It literally means, “to dip, immerse or plunge.” Baptism illustrates Jesus' death, burial and resurrection. Baptism is a demonstration that you already believe. It is important to understand that Baptism alone does not “save" you. You are “saved” by your faith in Jesus alone.
Why do we get baptized? We are baptized because we seek to follow the example set by Christ and because Christ commanded it. Jesus came from Nazareth and was baptized by John in the river (Mark 1:9). Jesus said, Go then, to all people everywhere and make them my disciples, baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19-20).
When is a good time to get baptized? As soon as you have decided to trust Christ with your life, you can and should be baptized. Please feel the freedom to respond to the invitation for baptism at the conclusion of a service. We do suggest that children take the time to truly understand and set up a time to be baptized.
Communion
The Bible instructs us to proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes for His Church (1 Corinthians 11:26). When we celebrate Communion we honor our Lord and receive His encouragement to us as His body. It is also a testimony to the world of what Christ has done for us and that we are anticipating His return. We encourage each covenant member at SCCC to be established in a group and to take Communion with his or her group or family at least monthly.
